Laugh, cry, smile and be entertained at The State Theatre for an evening of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender films curated to entertain, educate, and celebrate sponsored by Rainbow Rehabilitation Center & The Wilson Family.

S.T.A.R. | 2016 | Rhys Ernst | USA

Star tracks the modern transgender rights movement via the activism of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, participants in the Stonewall Riots of 1969. From the narrators to the composer to the animator, the series was made with a breadth of talent from the trans community.

BAYARD & ME | 2017 | Matt Wolf |  USA

Bayard Rustin was the organizer of the March on Washington and one of the leaders of the civil rights movement. In the 1980s Bayard adopted his younger boyfriend Walter Naegle to obtain the legal protections of marriage. In this intimate love story, Walter remembers Bayard and a time when gay marriage was inconceivable. (Information from mattwolf.info/bayard-me)

I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU | 2017 | Ben Joyner + Dumaine Babcock | USA

I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU highlights the life and portrait work of Southern-born photographer, Adrain Chesser. From his experiences about living through the early 80s as a queer at the beginning of the AIDS crisis to his conservative Christian family who wouldn’t accept him.

In Zapotec cultures of southern Mexico, the world is not divided simply according to the gender binary. Muxes, a third category of folx, have long been embraced by the indigenous communities around the town of Juchitán de Zaragoza, in Oaxaca, Mexico, where people of mixed gender are traditionally accepted and often have special roles in society.

I LIKE GIRLS  | 2016 | Diane Obomsawin | Canada

This animated short film explores self-awareness and discovery through the nitty-gritty adventures of "love”. Based on Obomsawin’s collection of stories entitled “On Loving Women” published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2014.

The films may not be suitable for younger audiences, so parental guidance is advised.
