Right now we are collectively feeling a lot of anticipatory grief. We are already feeling the tendrils of grief spiral in as we imagine the pain and fear that will continue to unfurl among those we love and within ourselves. The anticipation of pain is pain itself as we prepare for what trans and queer people, Black and Indigenous and migrant people, and people with wombs will face in coming days. We are already suffering from lack of access to the medical and mental health care we need, from raging wildfires and torrents of flood, from the extraction of our very bodies and livelihoods so a few tech billionaires can revel in their power.
It’s thick and weighted. It feels slow and fast all at once.
We cannot fight every crisis alone.
We will not be able to still all the chaos.
We will lose beings we love.
And
Gathering together to tend the grief will transform how we can and do show up in the days to come.
The antidote to isolation is connection.
The balm for despair is allowing your sorrow to be held and witnessed.
Join community as we gather to recognize and connect with our collective grief through conversation, song, movement and silence.
You may be thinking “I’ve never done grief in public!? What will this be like?”
We got you. And it’s OK to go slow and show up and be curious. We will invite you into conversation with each other, into some silence and reflection, and into some community singing. You can say yes or no to any of the invitations as you bear witness to your own and your community’s grief. I hope to see you there.
